Melanie Joy Hall
Melanie Joy Hall's music is warm and welcoming. Her strong and smooth alto voice moves easily from folk to classic country to sultry jazz standards. For over a decade Melanie worked as a singer, actor, and musician at professional theaters across the U.S., from New York City to Charleston, South Carolina to Denali Park, Alaska. Aside from her voice, piano was her first instrument (and still a passion), but as Melanie’s interest in folk, country, and bluegrass blossomed in her young adulthood she began to focus on acoustic guitar. John Prine, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Loretta Lynn, Emmylou Harris, Joni Mitchell, Iris Dement, and Patsy Cline are major influences; Melanie enjoys playing their songs along with a few original tunes. She spends her summers in Alaska and winters in Crested Butte, Colorado, performing regularly with her husband Kevin Kimura. Her Alaskan band, Sweet Ginger Heat, released the album “Healy Heartache” in April 2011, and toured the U.S. (from Alaska to Texas!) in the fall of that year. “Healy Heartache” and Melanie’s first album, “Falling to the Moon” (recorded and produced by her father Gary M. Hall, and featuring his excellent guitar and songwriting), are both available on all streaming platforms, and Sweet Ginger Heat is known to occasionally reunite for special events.
Check out Melanie Joy Hall’s Facebook page for several videos of livestream shows from 2020-2021; she and Kevin brought joy to a lot of friends throughout the pandemic that way, and they’re now enjoying getting back out into the “real” world of live music!
