Hello! Miss me?? Back in Portland for two months, before heading up for my EIGHTH (yowza!) summer in Alaska on May 20. While I'm here, I'm music directing and acting/playing for Oregon Children's Theatre's world premiere of "The Storm in the Barn" http://www.octc.org/onstage/storminthebarn. The show, based on a graphic novel by Matt Phelan and set in 1930s dust-bowl Kansas, features gorgeous original music by local band Black Prairie http://www.blackprairie.com. We've got a fantastic group of musicians and actors bringing this show to life, directed by the brilliant Marci Crowson, and I'm so excited to be a part of it! The show opens April 28, 2012, and runs on Saturdays and Sundays through May 20.
I'll also be performing a rare SOLO gig at an event held by Topanien Gifts (http://www.topanien.com/) in May. I'll be playing as people arrive for this:
Thursday evening, May 10, 6-9 p.m.
Documentary film called 'No Woman, No Cry' by Christy Turlington Burns (super model turned activist) will be shown exemplifying the terrible odds so many women are up against before, during, and after delivery. Countries shown include Tanzania, Bangladesh, Guatemala, and the USA. This will be followed by a panel presentation and discussion of the issues. Table will be set up with petitions and cards for writing and encouraging world leaders to help combat the very poor record so many countries have with what should be preventable deaths (USA included!). Materials are from Amnesty International.
